Shepton Walks

A not-for-profit inclusive walking group promoting walks in and around the beautiful market town of Shepton Mallet.

Welcome

Shepton Mallet is a member of the national Walkers are Welcome network. We’re well positioned to explore the local countryside, nestled at the gateway to the Mendip Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty criss-crossed with trails, footpaths and the remains of ancient industry.

Whether you’re a local walker or you’ve travelled to get here, welcome to Shepton Walks!

Walks coming up

11-13 September – Our fifth Festival of Walking

Four varied walks of differing lengths and interest.

Kick off the Festival with a Pub Walk along the Mendip Way to Dinder, ending at the George Inn in Croscombe.

Artist, Steve Cobbin is back once again bringing his immense talent and expertise to a Doodles and Drawing walk. No experience is required, just enthusiasm!

Another History Walk with Ian Keys will celebrate the legacy of the river Sheppey in supporting the town’s once world-class industry, and explore its associated buildings and family stories.

The Festival ends with a Long Ramble, around 8.5 miles across Mendip countryside.

Festival Of walking

2026 Walking Festival September 11th - 13th

The walks for the 2026 Walking Festival are ready for booking!

Join us for one (or more) of the four walks.

Outside of the Festival we organise a walk each month.

We’re always on the lookout for new walks, new themes and new walk leaders. If you have ideas for walks during the course of the coming year we’d love to hear them.

We would especially like to find new walk leaders who can bring fresh ideas and knowledge about new walks we may not know. Email us on sheptonwalks@gmail.com

Support Us

Shepton Walks is run entirely by volunteers. If you enjoy walking there are many ways you can get involved – we can always use more support!

We would love to build a group of walk leaders, and hear about new ideas for walks requiring particular knowledge, such as foraging for example, and who might lead them.

Talk to us on one of the walks, or contact us at  sheptonwalks@gmail.com
